Well this is a perplexing one. While the crossed sabers are associated with the Cavalry, I have never seen them superimposed over disc like this, in US military use. Doesn't mean it isn't possible.

Could be a fraternal item, or just creative licensing (Fantasy piece).

If nothing is found/learned here you could try the US Militaria Forum site.

Crossed sabres with shield may indicate "Calvary Guard" for a high ranking officer. I'd guess Civil War era.

wow, the starburst background Dragoon---but the crossed sword did not show up until the 1840 ?
