Milford Pa a nice place NOT to go detecting.

yep. Sometimes it's just not worth the fight.
Normally I just say OK , nod, agree, and Kill them with Kindness, apologies, understanding & hope they leave first so I can go on hunting.

If they don't bow out first, i move on.

but it's so rare for it to happen here , I'd have to think hard to describe actual Examples in detail.

one thing I remember hearing from cops [local & state] is the New Rule, I have to share the Gold with Them :laughing7: I've also received Leads from Police.

I was once talking about metal detecting with a friend, and a police officer overheard. He came up and told me that he always wanted to try metal detecting sometime. He was extremely impressed when I told him that you can find two hundred year old relics. He even suggested some sites to me. I have never had any problems with law enforcement. I even was once entering my colonial honeyhole, which is right off the school nature trails. A teach walked up to me, I expected the worst, but then she told me that she metal detects, and took once her class metal detecting there once, but they never found anything. Then she gave me a card for the state metal detecting club, which she is a part of. I once was metal detecting at the site where I found my 1803 cent, the one in my avatar. A guy came through the woods, he said he saw me near his property, on his cameras. I told him the truth, that I came from the soccer field to the woods, and never crossed the stonewall with signs on it. He told me that he knew that I haven't trespassed, and just wanted to warn me, and wished me luck metal detecting. So far I have never had people problems while metal detecting, then again though, I spend most of my time in the woods.
