My coin storage jug was full, so I took it to the Coinstar Machine this weekend. I keep really good records of my hunts and finds and being an engineer by trade, stats and data interest me a lot.

So I thought I would post my mid-year totals here as it might be interesting to some others also. Feel free to add your totals in this thread here, if you want to, as I would like to see what you all are digging too.

I have been hitting the schoolyards a lot this spring and early summer, so my totals for clad and jewelry are higher and the old coin totals are lower than I expect them to be for the second half of the year... we'll see.

Anyway, here are my mid-year (finds from 2006) totals:

Times went out metal detecting - 25

My clad pile that I took to the Coinstar machine weighed 11 pounds.

0- $1.00 coins
0 - halves
235 - quarters
272 - dimes
228 - nickels
684 - pennies
150 - pennies (that I threw out, zinc - too corroded)

1569 American coins
Face value $105.87

3 - Canadian $1.00
6 - other Canadian coins
2 - French coins
2 - Euro coins
1 - Hungarian coin
14 - foriegn coins total

Keeper Finds:

3 - 14 kt Gold rings (including a 10 diamond 14kt men's wedding ring)
1 - 14 kt gold pendant
1 - 10 kt gold pendant
1 - 14 kt gold necklace
1 - 14 kt gold diamond solitare earring
1 - 10 kt gold pin
1 - gold tooth

10 - sterling rings
7 - sterling pendants
1 - sterling chain bracelet
5 - sterling earrings

4 - Silver Washington quarters
4 - Mercury dimes
4 - Silver Roosevelt dimes
1 - silver Canadian quarter
1- 1862 French cino centimes
1 - V Nickel
2 - Indian Head pennies
20 - Wheatback pennies

Good luck to you all! Happy hunting!

Wow, You've been busy, Boobydoo. Congrats on a great first half of the year. Your quarter and dime count is amazing.

Thanks Digginman!

Yep, in those woodchipped play areas at the schools, the coins are easy pickins. I guess the kids of today don't think much of a dime or quarter... they want Dollars!!

I'm quite a ways behind you inventorywise, but I couldn't help noticing you said you're an engineer and "have to" keep records and "stats" on your finds. Well, I'm not an engineer, I'm a chemist by trade (and of course we despise all you engineers - hehe), but I keep a running spreadsheet of all my finds as well :).

If you haven't done it yet, catalog your "state" quarters and see how many of the 40 issued you've found - it's kind of another fun thing to do. I've only found 116 quarters to your 235, but I was surprised to discover that I have representatives from 27 of the 40 so far already (with 4 of the ones I don't have yet being the newest 2006 issues).

It would be kind of fun to be able to find all 40 by the end of the season.

Then again, I'd trade them all in for some good vintage silver :)

Happy hunting

Thanks for comment Cubfan!
I did go through keep the state quarters that I had before I cashed them in.
I have 24 of the 40 with only 1 2005 and no 2006.

Good luck!

Hi Boobydoo,

Congrats on your findings!

I am a complete novice at metal detecting and Treasurenet. The latter I find very confusing. (I'm not even sure this reply will be sent!) Does Treasurenet have a HELP and, if so, how do you get to it? If not, could you suggest ways of learning how to use it? (I am assuming that you, as a charter member, are very familiar with the program.)

My apologies for bugging you with this matter, but please accept my thanks in advance!

Sincerely,

Luke Rohlfing

P.S. In case I don't know how to receive your reply, my regular e-mail address is: [email protected].

Wow!!! Very nice totals, WTG!!!
You sure put the skunk on me so-far...

Total clad: right around $56. The pic shows the $46.22 I took to coinstar the other day. I had another $10, or so that I gave to my nephew to use for gas for his pocket bike. :)
