I remember one of those on the end of a pole to open and close the high up windows when I was wee lad in grade school

Bingo, great ID, I knew I'd seen it somewhere before. We had a short one for the windows and shutters in school when we were stationed at Mountain Home AFB. Idaho.

I use to get spanked (3rd grade 75-76) with that stick for not doing my homework. Maybe because my backside saw/felt it more than seeing it with my eyes is why I couldn't place it.

Heck my backside is stinging now just thinking about it.
