Re: Meteorite???

IT is swiss cheese with a V nickel inside... Just kiddin take that to a specialist and make it clear you don't wish to sell it ( an ethical appraisal never includes an offer to buy) even a referral to a collector who "might be intrested" is iffy Good luck.

Well, the results are in on my "meteorite". Needless to say, I have to keep working. :(
It was checked out (by pictures) by a geology professor at UNCA.
Turns out it is SLAG, not a meteorite.
All I got to say is "slag is a drag".
Oh well, I'll keep looking.
By the way, how much is slag bringing in today's market? ;D

On ebaY you could probably get $600 for it . . . but then the buyer will stiff you.

Everything on the planet is worth what someone is willing to pay. If you can't eat it or dring it it has no real value - only what others are willing to assign to it.

(How's that for Friday and the work week is ending philosophy?)

Thanks for the words of wisdom Charlie. ;D
Speaking of eating & drinking, now that Friday is here, I think it's time for Mexican food & Margarita's. Ya-hooooo!
I wonder if they'll take the 1933 peso I dug up? Hmmmmmmmmmm.
Have a great w/end.

Definitely not a meteorite. From the vesicles (holes), It appears to be iron slag.

No iron meteorite will have those air-bubble holes.

That's one big piece of slag! All I have seen was about the width and thickness of a half dollar. But good find just the same. Brought some excitement to us all. Keep at it. Monty

Doug i waved a magnet, not fast over the piece i found from there and it kept changing the direction of my magnet.

The piece you and i found appears to have nickel in them.
I`m going to wait for a positive ID, rather than from just a picture.

Doug... If I was you, I'd call the NC Museum of Natural Science, downtown. They might be able to either identify it or get you to someone local here.
