Recovered this rock while metal detecting underwater off the coast of Rhode Island. Got home and found that it is not magnetic. activates my Garrett Pro Pointer solidly, and registers a solid 39 VDI reading (low conductor) on my Garrett AT Pro. Any thoughts on pursuing this further as a potential meteorite? Thanks.

Not a meteorite.

Just a typical hot rock. Most gold detectorists find them frequently. It looks like well-rounded basalt, so probably has enough iron in it to set off a detector. Or, it may have fairly high carbon content, which will do the same.

Thanks for the replies. I've encountered "hot rocks" before and most of them were lighter and more porous. This rock was just tossed on my backyard rock garden!
