I found this last month and was wondering what it might have been used for. I am thinking it might be part of a door where the heart would surround the key hole.

Any ideas?

Thanks and HH everyone!

Now this looks like it could have had a heart shape that wore out and disappeared and it was a heel of very small(kids?)tap shoes. Was it four d near any kind of performance theater by chance?

Very cool. I was not thinking heel plate because I thought heel plates were in the shape of a horseshoe. Obviously I was wrong.
Thank you for the quick ID!

So would a colonial guy walking around leave behind heart-shaped footprints?

After finding out what it is, I did a little poking around on the net.
Looks like it’s debatable on CW soldiers. I like the call girl take on the plate but even that might be a little far fetched

This claimed Civil War used plate is claimed to have been sutler sourced.

Research into goods of the era might turn up more.
My guess is ladies boots would have a smaller heel than most mens in comparison.

They say ladies of the night wore them but I think alot of other ladies wore them as well, find it hard to believe these were only worn by sluts lol....

Wouldn't catch me walking around with hearts on my heals, hard think a soldier thought it was cool...

The more I think about it if I was a soldier and needed a heal plate I wouldn't care what was on it.....:icon_salut:

I clicked on the link and looked at the pictures. The plate displayed show the exactly plate as mine. Same dimensions and even the same "2" stamped on the back at the bottom.

My thoughts are...it was not a soldier's plate but instead a woman's plate found at the battle site.
From what i know, lots of battles were watched on the sidelines by the public. People came from all over to witness the event.

I guess it is possible that men wore these same plates but i doubt it because of the size.

I know that the way we think now and the way people thought back then are complete opposite.

For example...the color pink was considered masculine and the color blue was mostly worn by women and children.

Who knows what hearts meant back then. If they were indeed wore by men, maybe the plates were worn to remind them of the woman they loved?

Theories abound, as to who wore them, certainly a Lady would choose them over a man, unless HE was...............you know...! :laughing7:
Anyways, I know the foot tracks would point the way there...!
Would be interesting to read up on these Heel Taps........besides people wanting to make their footware last longer..., is there more to it?
