Is the hole on the side damage or purpose made?

My first guess would be a candle holder.

I was going to ask the same Cru....it seems to me there was a pice to a kerosine lamp similar...there would have been a knob through the hole....I know I have dug them, and thought thats what they were

The candle holder makes sense. Don't know why I didn't think of that. The side hole appears to be just a weak spot (it's almost melted/worked looking and there is another smaller hole just up and the the left in the picture). The bottom is not threaded and appears broken off. Candle holder is certainly a good guess. I'll leave it up a little longer to see if anyone has proof. Thanks for your help everyone!

Looks like it is a Horse Plume Holder.....These holders were fitted (screwed) into the large head collar on the horse...The open cup end would hold the feathers (plume), a truly magnificent sight ...

Great Find.....

Hope this helps Napper...
