The subject line pretty much sums it up. This is the most unusual find I think I have ever detected!!
Well to start at the beginning, here is a pic of whats left of a farm house that was demo'ed a few weeks ago. I noticed it on the way home from work one day and stopped to check it out for a possible detecting site. I talked to the dozer operators and secured permission to hunt it anytime I liked as long as they were not running any equipment.
That was about two weeks ago and I was able to get back down there today since the rain has gone. I did'nt have the camera to get any more pics at the site but it was pretty much the same as the above pic. I hunted the yard area since it was still grassy and not muddy and started finding a few wheats and clad. I had dug my first silver (1950 quarter) and decided to move to what used to be the back yard.
On the way back there I was moving thru some tall grass (you can actually see the area in the bottom right where the yellow looking grass is), when my detector squawked. I looked down and saw this:
I realized it was an old geiger counter and laughed as I remembered all the people that I have ran into while detecting and they called my machine a geiger counter!
Anyway I thought it was a pretty neat find and thought I would share it with you guys. Here are a few more pics of it and the totals for this site:
Here are the totals:
Quarter, 1950, Rosies, 1949,1961, Nickels, 1946,1958D, Wheats, 34,42,45,51D,53D,56,56. A religious pendant, an old lipstick case, and a Ford spindle cover for a Model A. I also dug about a dollar in clad that was not pictured and a bunch of misc junk.
Thanks for looking
D.
