Metal detecting people must be poor.

If you're hunting a beach that has a lot of people you will run across someone who has a smart-azz remark to make.
Here is a good idea that I've used many times...

I will place a ladies diamond ring on my little finger before I start to detect...

"Finding any buried treasure!?"(they always have that smart smirk)

I hold my little finger up and say... "Slow today.. only ONE diamond so far."

It will remove a "smirk" in a heart beat!!:laughing7:

Red...I'm a carrier for the USPS and I just must have lost my mind for a moment cause all us carriers know they hate us anyway. I really wouldn't have expected any better if I would have thought first.

In case you are not making a joke, here are my thoughts. A "good" privy is a very old one. Valuables are most certainly always relics that were thrown there to dispose of the household trash such as bottles, tins, pipes, buckles, crocks, etc. I am sure some might contain coins dropped accidentally, but the more common find will be bottles.

I was serious. I don't see why peeps would fill it up with garbage and shorten its life span?

I can see coins falling out of pockets.
 

I don't think they had landfills and garbage pickup back then, lol.

People stare at me all the time in public I hate it... I was at a park MD'ing one afternoon and there was a busy street to the left of me. This guy actually slowed down in the middle of all the cars honking behind him, pulled over and stared at me trying to be nosy for a good 10 minutes, drove off, came back around, stared some more and then finally sped off.

I guess you just have to keep doing what you enjoy doing and not care what others think right?
 

I'm surprised at all the attitude by the general public??
When I detect the beach I just get asked the normal questions,
Did you find anything? What's the best thing you've ever found?
What does a machine like that cost? etc.
I don't seem to detect any attitudes! Although, I have had a couple of sour looks but could care less!
If somebody threw money at me I would be a little p.o. Unless it were $100. Bills!:laughing7:
 

I haven't had any problems either, Rusty. People ask me the same questions. A few have even suggested sites. I don't hunt beaches but people in parks are pretty cool with it. I had one guy in a large park here yell " Hey, are you looking for these?" and held up some keys someone had obviously left behind.
 

I overlook any smart remarks from kids but if an adult makes a smart remark to me, I hurt their feelings...I can talk some trash and Ive left plenty of smart mouths standing there with a blank look on their face. They are usually trying to look cute in front of the women they are with. I leave them with the women laughing at them.

Consider the size of a privy hole and the household waste stream. Lets dig a new one every week and move the shack? ???

Before refuse service, (and even today in some places usa) waste is hauled to the woods, the swamp, the creek, wherever.
 

Sorry for off topicing IC THE LITE.
Poison bottles went in the privy to keep kids from them after use. Discreet booze bottles as well. A rare case in a coal town was alleged to have been a collapsible silver cup with some jewelry. Adding lime or even just topsoil to cut odor added to fill. A proper working pit could be used quite a while but on occasion, special guests would be one, a new pit was dug. Maybe an annual event if shallow holes. At time of moving old hole was used for rubbish. A grandfather used to have me dig pits for trash". A little deeper,a little deeper" l.o.l..

Sorry about her, but She is an ass. I talk about my hobby to anyone and everyone that wants to know. If they think less of me I bet I could find fifty things they do that show their true weaknesses, I try really hard not to point them out usually. But I have slid out a couple of observations at times.

The best thing you could say to the Sup is "Yeah, I am one of those guys that love my hobby", what is it you love to do in your spare time?

I am a supervisor at my job and I talk about my finds all the time 90% take intrest ....
I pity them if they don't! !!!
