WOW! All this and not one pull tab! Matter of fact, hardly any trash at all. Only good research and some luck will help you find these spots. I doubt this place has ever had a detector on it until today. Today, it's just a big wide open 50 acre soybean field. During the years 1933-1936, this spot was a 4th of July community pic nic and political rally. The Grand Ole Opry visited in 1935 and Minnie Pearl was in attendance. Deepest dig was 5 inches into some very nice soft soil. Most coins were at 3 inches or less, many at one inch....probably due to plowing. I was surprised at the lack of quarters or halves.

I didn't expect to find the exact spot today so I didn't allow myself nearly enough time to "rape" it. 24 coins in two hours....WOW!
Gotta be more.

Dimes: 1897, 1901 O, 1911D, 1917, 1918D, 192x, 1929, 1934, 1935

Buffalo's: 1934, 1936

Wheaties: 13 total, dates unreadable as of today.

Have difficulty posting pic's today...will try to get one up soon.

Regards;

I always wonder about those empty fields as I drive past, and then say "Naaaa" as I think of trying to cover such a large, open space that's been plowed over for so many years. Now I know....

Nice finds and sounds look a great area. Seems like right after the depression, there was a little less money to be lost and since dimes are the smallest size there would be more than quarters or halves. JMO

*waving arms madly!!* Send me in, coach, send me in!! LOL

awesome stuff! i am going to check out a site this weekend that could have similar results.without giving out too much info, it was a very popular place back at the turn of the century. now its just a blurb in the history books.a lot of the site is built over now but there is a strip of woods that shows evidence of being popular once. i didnt see any no tresspassing signs in the woods so im gonna go for it.only thing...its in a relativly urban area so im sure people will think ive lost my mind!ill go early in the morning, but anyway enough about me...............congrats on the new honey hole.i hope you find a ton of more old coins!

I can't tell you how big an idiot I am for screwing up the picture that I had of these coins. My apologies. I will retake and atempt to post another picture.

A local radio talk show host got word of my finds and has invited me to come on his show...live....to talk about this place! Funny thing is, he knows even more about it than I do!!!! He told me that he would show me where the admission gate was, where the tent shows where and also, where the ice cream tent was.

In a phone conversation with this gentleman, he told me of a lady that he had spoken to since learning of my finds.....she told him that she remembers attending this event for a couple of years as a ten year old. She recalled that admission was 10 cents. She also told him how much she longed for the 10 cent ice cream that was sold there but she couldn't afford it. Man oh man, if only she knew how many dimes she was walking on........

Both the talk show host and the lady that attended this pic nic back in the '30's, have asked me to coordinate my next visit so they can join me and look over my shoulder. How cool will that be?! I'll take my spare detectors....how cool would it be for that lady to find a coin from that field, from that era, from that pic nic?!

Heavenly I say.

Very cool,,,,
Just imagine if she finds something of hers, or something from someone she knows, or knew...
One thing,,, after the show airs, ya better hit the place hard because every detectorist within a hundred miles Will be there the very next day... My cousin, and another hunting partner of mine, talked to a news paper reporter about what they found at one of the local parks here in town. He printed the article, and the very next day the park was swamped... ;D
Good luck & Happy hunting~
