i think its a thumb latch from a door

It is an old house site from 1800's dirt sniffer very good guess looks about write.I have found many coins and relics from Native American to Colonial at this site 1798 to 1941

maybe off of a stein

Nagant appears to be on the mark as a thumb door latch.
