You actually think these people were interested in repatriating the bones ::)

They are not pictured in a way that would suggest they have the interest of the families at heart. If they were; the hole would be dug different, the recording material would be visible, the clothes would be different, their faces would not be covered, so on...

Once again :) they were no graves there :) Why people think instantly of graves?
If they belonged to some archaeological society you are right, they would have different clothes and small brushes in their hands and it would take them months to dig all that metal.
I would not go as far as making suggestion or judging they hearts based on clothes and covered faces :)
Maybe I jumped to the wrong conclusions, based on pass experience. Are you saying that they are from the Czech Republic & followed the letter of the Law? If so I have visited this country & have friends I could ask.
Generally, if it all got dug up, reported & distroyed, there seems little point in doing it in the first place.
The war grave issue came up, as lot's (& there is no way of knowing before digging) of these bomb damaged trenches have body parts, that's why they should be treated respectfully. Simple.
I would hope, that anyone in the US, that dug a battle site, would immediately report any human bones, because I would in any ploughed field over here. But it is not as sensitive as the WWII or even WWI site as I don't know any surviving family from the colonial, CW or Saxon period that will feel their missing loves ones have been violated by a Treasure Hunter. Gives us all a bad name if not done properly, & we should not brush this off with 'nice finds'. We should 'all' strive to give the right image on the www (if you still think those covered faces give the right image, then I can't help you) But your point is valid about some not wishing to show their face, I am 1 of those so understand it quite well, therefore I don't have a picture with me in the shot - simple (they could have just shot the finds= better impression)

Crusader is right. As usual.
No one can tell me they are digging up all this stuff only to report it to the police and have it destroyed. How stupid would that be? Especially if you consider the money collectors would pay for these guns.

:icon_scratch: A game of Russion Roulette any one? :dontknow:

You got the point. :icon_thumright:
This is often driven by market demand & if people on this forum encourage this behaviour by either congratulating or buying these finds without understanding or caring if it was ethical or legal, just because they are 'cool' pieces of history then we encourage the wrong people to taint our good name (as a collective hobby). Ultimately this could lead to total banning, so we all suffer, or do we  No, because those that were willing to break the rules in the first place continue & it goes further underground, but those who are honest suffer the most.
We should stamp out those that put us in a bad light, specially on the www. Simple.

I'm glad there are other members sharing my "sensitive" point of view on WW relics. And yes I wouldn't mind having a Luger in my collection, too, but I still try to maintain my humanity.

Well, as the title said "this is a different kind of detecting". There's no doubt about that......But to condemn them is something else.
Personally I wouldn't try that myself, because of the danger, and the chance of finding human remains. That's me.....And i could say the same about hunting relics here in Ga. I know that there was fighting and dying going on here. But still i look. ???. So to say they are wrong and I'm right........I cant be that hippocritical......Awesome finds no doubt.......JMHO.

Awesome finds... :icon_thumright: I would love to be able to get in on some WWII digs. It should be handled for what it is, History. Wheather it be a piece of steel or a piece of bone. It should be documented, researched and properly handled. I was lucky enough to have all of my family members return home from WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam, but had someone been lost, I would very much like for them to be found and returned home. There are organizations that can be contacted, when remains are found, that will take the remains and do their best to identify them. If we were to never dig, land or sea, in fear of disturbing remains or burial sites, then we would never dig. As far as the danger goes, to each his own. ;D

Interesting read--sensitive issues.

All the best,

Lanny

You say good for them without understanding what country they are in, what Laws they maybe breaking, & faces covered ::)

Better them than me lol i could care less what they do to the extent that they are not defacing human remains. While it is possible, i give everyone the benefit of the doubt and believe that everyone is genuinely "good" until they prove me wrong. At the end of the day it's their asses on the line not mine :tongue3:

Theres no evidence just a ww2 amo dump. Can i help?/ ;D ;D ;D A big bomb would make a great water feature for fish pond. :laughing7: :laughing7:

People hunt European battlefields all the time. Personally I don't see any problem with it so long as live ordinance is reported and dealt with properly, and war graves are reported and left undisturbed until they can be properly excavated. Unfortunately I know this is most likely often not the case.

The gun on the left in the first picture looks like a German MG42. Terrible gun which cut the allied forces to ribbons. 1550 rounds per minute.
