I found this while I was walking along the water at the seaside ca beach I could not believe it. I don't know much about it yet and it does a a message in it....maybe someone might know what I should do with it. I would love to see what the message says. A little bit of water has gotten inside. There is a number 2 on the bottom of the bottle. Does anyone know what that means. image.jpeg

i am talking with the historical society preservation society... I'm sorry for not responding to all of you sooner. thanks for all the replys

Thank you for the update and please don't be sorry! Many of us are genuinely excited and if there was ever a place to share your discovery, this forum, which is full of passionate discoverers, is the place!

years ago i found 1 and opened it. It read You just opened a bottle of my pee. :BangHead:

thanks for understanding! I don't metal detect to often but I do dig for old bottles and I love anything that is vintage/antique. When I found this site by searching the web...I fell in love with it. It is the coolest ever and I am glad to become a member. To everyone thanks for your patients I promise to keep everyone updated.

You've received a lot of feedback on this thread which goes to show you've found a real treasure. I think taking the time to talk to your historical society and following through on any recommended leads is a good idea compared to just rushing to open.

It only has to be 109 years old to claim the record for oldest found!
108-Year-Old Message in a Bottle Is Oldest Ever Found

Good Luck!

I found a similar one 2 years ago washed up on Duck Beach, NC. The note had some contact info and a promise to pay $100 to the person finding the bottle if they called and provided information as to the date, time, place it was found. Called the phone number, and got no answer. I think it's still sitting on a shelf in the garage. Hope you have better luck!

Did you try calling more than once?

I have to be Honest. It worries Me you talked to Historians Before opening it.
I'm hoping they don't turn this into a long drawn out deal.
where you never get to see what's in it.
and they take all credit for the discovery.

Good Luck :icon_thumright:

You don't even know if it's old or not. Why bring the historical society in on the deal? Have a friend record you opening the bottle. How tough is that? It's just a message in a bottle, not the Lost Ark of the Covenant! Geez!

By the time any Organization Government or private make a decision that lost person and their child would have died from old age.
It's a shame that people think the Government is better than them at making a decision. This is my opinion.
"The Government should not out number the people".:BangHead:

I agree with some of the members here. It's an unknown message in a bottle. Open it. Read it. And move on. We don't go calling the historical societies every time we find a silver coin. Plus it could have been written last year by some kid named Bob from Seaside Heights NJ.

You did open the bottle?.... And....

Found one years ago on Cape San Blas Florida. Turned out to be from a guy in Panama Beach looking to hook up with a random girl.

Actually it's a she, and you need to face facts, women don't think like men, they think like women.:BangHead:

lol - I must be an odd one! I would have opened that thing up on the beach right then and there! That cork would not have survived the wrath of my pocket knife!

I would not have gone to the historical society first. Hopefully they do not have possession of it.

same here. I would have used my car key to dig the Cork out Or found something
that would work.
If for some strange reason I couldn't.
my day would have been over & I would have been straight home here to get it open :laughing7:
Not even sure I would follow my own recommendation to Dry it with a hair Drier first.
I may have been too curios to think or care.
