About a month ago we had tropical storm Debbie pass by us and brought in fresh sand into an area normally 10ft deep just offshore which made a second sandbar about 300ft from the normal tide line. It only took a minute in chest deep water on a negative tide and I got my first hit. It was a 1935 sand entrusted tarnished merc dime. I took a few steps and the same tone and ID number which rang up 81 on the manticore. I detected until the tide was coming in and I could no longer touch. I came ashore and had pulled up 55 merc dimes dated 1935-1945. Some were only an inch or two and some were deep but all of them were in the recently brought in sand. I went back the next day and found more, the excitement was just amazing and I wanted to share this experience with a fellow friend who I knew I could trust so I gave him a call and we pulled another 70 total. Once we cleaned out the entire area I got my scuba gear and excal and went out a few times past the swim buoys and found another 150+.

We’re trying to logically figure out where and why they are there. I’ve been hunting for 20 years and this is just crazy to me. Talking to locals who have grown up on the island (Anna Maria) and they said the tide line 80 years ago was about where I found them. At this time there was not a lot of tourism, just mostly fishermans homes. No banks or arcades or casinos or phones and just a wooden bridge connecting the island from the mainland. Just a very secluded island. I found nothing else, no debris, no jewelry, literally nothing but these dimes. My guess is they came from tons of rolls because they’re a lot of the same dates. I don’t care about selling them so I did clean them with electrolysis and shine some up to check dates as many were unreadable, once cleaned some look as though they were never circulated. We did document some of it and the video is available on YouTube if you search Detect Florida’s page if you’re interested in watching it I’ll just leave a link below.

On a side note, there was a bar half a mile away called the Drift inn owned by Babe Ruth at the same time frame as the dates on the coins. Maybe he dropped them haha

Hope you guys enjoy it and please give some thoughts, I’m open to any ideas on where they’re from.

Very neat! 1935-1945... wonder why those ten years. Wonder if they were all deliberately thrown in in 1945, the same year the war ended. Maybe someone was thanking God for surviving the war and gave the coins to the sea as thanks, maybe a navy man paying tribute to Poseidon. 🤷‍♂️ ⚓
