Hi all, I managed a full days detecting on Sunday and was on a ploughed field permission which i have been hammering before the crops go back on again.

I thought it was going to be a regular day after turning up loads of buttons but the good finds soon came. I managed some nice lead tokens, a medieval casket key and my best hammered silver coin to date, a James 1st shilling.

Hope you enjoy the video and give it a thumbs up :)

Haven't watched the video, but are you sure its a Shilling? Much more likely a Sixpence at about 17mm?

PS, my mistake it is a Shilling (Irish)

Either way its a good find - congrats - keep gridding.

I agree with it being a sixpence based on what I'm seeing in the video, but I've never dug an Irish hammered so I could be mistaken. Regardless, it has superb detail and is obviously an amazing find.

OK, my mistake, missed the harp, on my quick look. It is the right size for an 'Irish Shilling'. Still one I need, I've had the sixpence.

Thanks for the comments everyone :)

Hi, not sure where the 17mm is coming from haha? It measures roughly 28mm :)

I'm making loads of mistakes, I meant 27mm which is about right for a English Sixpence & an Irish Shilling.

Haha no worries :) I was starting to question myself lol. I believe it's from around 1605 which is the year guy Fawkes tried to blow up the houses of parliament ?

I agree Great Details Can be seen on the Coin. Sorry I to Spastic For Videos (most of the time).
"Coffin" Key Sounds Creepy.

I would need a macro shot to see the mintmark, but look yourself at the obverse 12oc position for:
bell - 1604-5
martlet - 1604-5
Rose - 1605-6
Escallop 1606-7

Couple of really nice finds, congrats on the hunt.

BAINSEY THAT CASKET KEY IS NEAT AND SO IS THE SHILLING.
