Morning all, my name is Jack and i now call Tasmania, a island of the bottom of Australia home. But up until 3 months ago i was living almost 4000km away on the western side of Australia.
Been detecting since may 2011, have owned a lot of detectors in that time but the one i used for the bulk of my detecting is the Garrett AT Pro. I got 3 weeks ago a Teknetics T2 Ltd, this machine has blown me away, after 14 months using AT Pro i have found the T2 opens up some virgin ground that i thought i had cleaned out with the Pro.
I like to get at least 20 hours detecting a week but some weeks get over 80 hours in the field, i dont waste my time chasing gold, though i have tried prospecting a few times but i just find the joy of digging old coins is more my thing than wandering a goldfield with nothing to show for 8 hours of walking.
I research old sites, most of all i chase old ghost towns that are lost to history books, so i do get myself into some remote and slightly dangerous locations.
As i said when i started this thread, i just moved to this island and its like a new world down here but on my youtube Jack Metal Detecting Tasmania - YouTube you get the whole history of my life as a detecting addict, from day 1 using a Ace 350 and cheap tools to yesterday using expensive headphones, T2 Ltd detector and top notch tools. I have a lesche ground shark for 90 percent of where i detect, this tool which i keep sharpened using my wifes expensive knife sharpener (she dont know i use it), this tool cuts through any soil and i made sure when i brought it that i measured the distance from arm to the ground so i could use the shovel as a walking stick/snake repellent.
I also have a one of a kind home made sand scoop, made by a navy boilermaker back home, this is a heavy welded tool that i drag behind me to make a grid pattern on the beach.
Last of my great tools are my headphones, i have used a lot of headphones in past year but for 9 months now been using the ultimate gray ghost. These headphones are fantastic and a must if you want to find those deep small targets.
