mckirk grubsteak

I have a Angus but have no idea what model. Good sluice. PS I have since put some black ribbed matting in the front to show what kind of color is going in the box

Yup I have one I won in a contest from Eastern US Prospecting and that's the video of what it caught when I took it out on the maiden voyage. It works great and I do back pack it in to remote places, but honestly I would go for the next size up to move more material. After all, the more material you process, potentially the more gold you find (if gold is in the material you are processing anyway). I think the Recon is similar in size but will move about twice what the Grub steak will. I can out-pan production wise even most medium size sluices, but sometimes its nice to set up a sluice and relax while feeding it some gravel. Also easier on the back feeding a drop riffle sluice while sitting down then bending or standing up panning.

I have had the AM Expedition model for almost a year...it has seen lots of hours of use and Stijl looks great. They sure do work well and clean up fast!

Hi Everyone,

I have been prospecting for gold for about 1.5 years and think its time to invest in a sluice. All of my prospecting so far has been confined to Massachusetts and Vermont. I tend to go to very small creeks and sometimes medium sized streams (10-15 feet across). Water flow is usually an issue in the small creeks. Due to chronic back problems I usually prospect for less than an hour at a time. The gold that I do find is very small, somewhere in the #50 mesh size. I usually have to use a loupe to see it.

I have perused the last 2 plus years on this thread, trying to decide which sluice to purchase. Everybody loves their sluice. It seems like most sluices will do the trick as long as you set them up correctly for the circumstances you find streamside. I am considering the Angus MacKirk Recon, Medium sized Proline and the Keene A51. I am leaning towards the MacKirk. Does anybody have any suggestions or comments? I was wondering if anybody has some new expereiences with these sluices that they would like to share on this cold snowy day?

Thanks,
DVD

I have been prospecting for about 6 months and decided to buy a sluice 2 months ago, I know have 2 Angus MacKirks, Grub Steak and Long Tom (they looked bigger in the ads), a mini Keene type (24 inches I think Proline) and a aluminum sluice with miracle mat with no metal riffles and have a Bazooka on order (Super Prospector cut down to 36 inches so I can use it in the White Mountains National Forest). Other than the Bazooka sluices are cheap so don't be afraid to buy more than one, even with the Bazooka they have cost me less than one handgun.
I have not used the MacKirk's in the stream yet but I did use the miracle mat up in NH and found some flour gold so it works.

I have tested them in my backyard check out the videos

Ben,

I liked the videos. I am going to try to set up a similiar system in my backyard. By the way I ordered the MacKirk recon, but I probably wont get to use it untill next year.

Astro B,

Are you sure 12 sluices are going to be enough? What would happen if all 12 get broke at the same time? You may want to reconsider the 13th sluice. Lucky 13, right?
