Bill would ban lead ammunition in California

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Environmentalists are pushing legislation to ban lead ammunition in California to prevent toxins from poisoning scavengers that eat animal remains left by hunters.
Final language of the bill was introduced Monday by Assembly Member Anthony Rendon, D-Lakewood, who said the legislation would remove a lingering source of pollution from the environment. It was sponsored by three major environmental groups — Defenders of Wildlife, Audubon California, and the Humane Society of the United States.

And at the same time they have shut down gold dredging, when it cleans lead and mercury from the environment.:tongue3:

ALL Liberals, eh...? Well... Californians ARE different.

We hunt private property in California and we will continue to use lead. We have reached the end of the rope in complying with every little anti-anti-anti BS crap they come up with. We will hunt with lead (maybe more than usual) and we will NOT turn in any guns. Any guns they don't already know about will remain that way. If they double the price of a hunting license, we will poach. My little circle of friends are done with them. Apparently Bloomberg's soda-size control measure was shot down by the courts. Imagine that, the poor little rich boy doesn't control the world after all. Maybe he can spend a little time on the streets helping his cops stopping and frisking his suspicious looking citizens.

Nothing good comes from California... Not to be disrespectful but this state ranks right up there with New York trying to ban large soft drinks... Makes me laugh talk about invasion of privacy....

Along the coast it is already in effect. If they catch you with lead on your person, you are in big trouble.I had to abide by that law 10 years ago there, had to either bury the animal,or take it to a hazardous waste dump. This was in what they were/are calling Condor range, and they wanted us to shoot Tungsten bullets(I would not, because the barrels on my guns are upwards of $500 a piece and Tungsten is harder than steel)I also want to know why we never ever see dead Turkey Vultures? Why doesnt lead kill them?
Its ironic they all of a sudden found an eagle last week suffering from lead poisoning and its all over the papers, that it was from hunters, although there was no lead in the bird......who's to say it wasnt from a lead fishing sinker?I am so sick of the propaganda and obvious set ups to further ones agenda. You cant believe anything you see,or hear any more. The Libs are raping this state and we are letting it happen.....oh yea, they will be banning marshmellows too....they cause obesity ya know?

Lead for water fowling banned,a push on occasion to eliminate it from fishing sinkers. While its good to be aware of environmental effects(D.D.T. a good example)
And while i applaud efforts to preserve condors, what's being found in them ?lots of man made hard ware. Add power lines and lead bullets are going to be low on the scale of mortality causes. If proven lead a major cause were i in there area i could voluntarily use copper, were it mandatory with out a proven need,i,d probably resent it. With the exception of pass through shots, any lead in carcass leaves with me. Should still be some bagged on counter from past season, its info.on performance.

GOOD!!!!

With around 4 million kills a year i,m not supporting the humane society or any thing they support.
If i took a dog out in the yard and killed it nobody would send money or lobby for me in court.

Most heartless people on the face of the earth!!

Most heartless people on the face of the earth!!

I have visited multiple facilities. Have seen "death row"dogs. No animal should endure that stress,
What really got me was an ex sister in law took two wonderful animals in with lots of food when she could not care for them. She called on their progress a couple days later and was devastated to find they were destroyed.

please explain your basis for this remark?

Sure..be glad to..Along with my paid profession I am also a wildlife rehabber.
What is stated regarding lead is true. .
I am no expert on the subject, but when it comes to the health of wildlife I consider myself on the front lines. .
Thanks for asking..

Over 100 deer per year drown in the Tehama-Colusa Canal. I guess that is ok. They even put chemicals in it to kill fish. I guess that is ok. That is only one of the canal systems in this Feinstein state. At least I buy a hunting and fishing license every year to help protect wildlife and pay for enforcement of fish and game laws. What's funny is, at this time I can go out to one of the ponds on the 12-pond ranch and have to shoot ducks and geese with non-lead shot. Then, when dove season rolls around, I can use lead shot over the same ponds and I do a LOT more shooting at dove that I do ducks and geese.

Thank you! Also thank you for your work!!!I too,am in the "Wildlife" field and have saved more animals than most.....guarantee I have put in more time and $$$$ than %99 of PETA memebers.I am a predator Control Specialist.I have never ever came across a lead poisoned Buzzard, have you? Also being in the rehab business you should be aware that lead is used un bullets for good reason,it is heavier than most all other metals therefore is more lethal, less wounded and suffering animals!Although many and likely your self included beleive that you will end all hunting in this State you are sorely mistaken. You may regulate it to death, and take from folks that hunt for a hobby, but where there are animals and people, there will always be conflict, and non lethal means do not always work....actually hardly ever.Once a wild animal is exposed to easy food from people they are forever channeled to this easy source.Translocation is also very in effective and down right cruel....aside fro spreading disease to other wise disease free populations.Just think about things before making choices with your heart/emootions

Depending on specie, relocation not all ways effective. Feline and canine as well as ursine for sure.besides returning to site removed from, death by own kind not uncommon. For those animals not combative over territories there are still limits due to habitat, its like adding people to your home with same size home and same amount of groceries available. Carrying capacity important among all.

Exactly true!!!!
Mountain lions especially, are very territorial and both combatants will die after a fight through a long drawn out battle with infection....not real humane huh?

Well, first of all sounds like you made several assumptions regarding my thoughts on issues..
I don't believe anyone is going to end all hunting in my state or any other..I do, however believe that killing for sport is not a sign of a healthy individual.
As far as relocation ..whether that is a viable choice has to do with the species that is being considered for such...
And FUI I make choices from my heart and my intellect. ..
Soon I will be needing to feed my orphaned wildlife every two hours...and this is a result of man with NO HEART!

The young lions, bears too,in finding their own way when ma cuts ties, seem to wind up in conflict with humans. Mature boars and toms won,t tolerate them(crunch) and mothers won,t either. Around here each spring when deer does start getting territorial over fawning areas, with the older more aggressive ones getting best spots, the previous years young are trying to avoid conflict with any of them. Winding up in strange areas, including those cursed asphalt paths run through nature with motor vehicles shattering their way through at high speed.

.....and how much money have you kicked in for the enforcement of Hunting Laws? How much money have you kicked in for habitat rehab. How many water springs have you rehabed in Desert enviro's for the wildlife? How many endangered species have you protected from non native predators? All of these things are done by people who hunt for sport. What is a better option?Your Tax dollar paying me to do it?Thats what happens!Please.....educate me on a species of animal that is successfully trans located in the State of Calif.
