The Cannonball was human error as was trying to disarm it and supposedly he had already removed the fuse. But this is the first I have heard of a shotgun shell or cartridge going off in someones hand, pocket or on the shelf. I keep shells in my pocket all the time and am not concerned and I also have old shells in a hot storage warehouse..
The old shotgun shells as well as cartridges were filled with black powder. I wonder if that was more unstable? Maybe someone can elaborate. Thanks for the story MoJoe.
