New guy here ...

I think I found my first civil war era bullet. Looks to be like .24 of an inch if the rust was removed. First signal was some burnt coal? My 350 shouts when it hit these hot rocks and I found camp lead about 200 yards away.

There are more good signals at this location and this was one of those walking back to the car finds by a funky old mangled oak.

Thanks for looking and any help

Looks like shot gun buckshot to me, but if there's "rust" (iron oxide) on it then it's not lead but it can be steel buck shot used for waterfowl hunting - I think most states do not allow lead shot to be shot at birds that fly over water due to lead contaminating the bodies of water.

Regardless if it's lead or not I do know it is post CW.

Thanks for your input. I'm not sure what that brown coating is ... Assume it's rust? Reason I thought that it may be civil war is because I was hunting on a civil war site used by both sides that has been a mental hospital since 1856

It has been nothing but a mental hospital as well as government offices for that entire time from 1856 and the Civil War.
In fact this property is in the middle of the state capital so I doubt anyone would be shooting a modern shotgun.

The property itself has had people living on it for 300+ years

Possibly a ball bearing? I had a 350, is it ringing up in the pull tab / gold range? If so its lead.
