Went hunting on a old southern plantation down in Louisiana and my buddy found this...feels heavy and seems to have hammer marks on the head...was puzzled about the serrations on the end...but only on one side?
Any ideas???? BCDBB40E-9948-454F-B61D-7A57EEB59028.jpegD4B1C3D1-A437-4B99-BD27-7EBC1F88CA45.jpegDDFA2AE2-AFE7-4BBA-9B18-A237AA9117DC.jpeg

Whatever it is it's got some age to it, likely early 19thc.
Looks like one end was threaded... maybe some sort of leather working tool for reaming holes. :icon_scratch:

Reminds me of a peg or something that goes in a loom, weaving spindle or bobbin I think they called it?

Here's a guess, but it is based on the items "looks". The shape/design and material looks very much like the barrel taps from the 18th and 19th century. I'm not aware that this was ever a normal procedure, but this item looks like it could be tapped into the hole of the barrel to "shut it off" a little more securely than the tap itself. The knurled rings and the end knob would make removal easier when it came time to remove. You requested "ideas", so this is just another to consider.
