Maximilian Treasure

oh i don't know and will not be researching it. This was just something i ran across in the New York Times archive.

Some research I did, shows the treasure carts left Mexico, going to Gavelston, where the treasure was to be shipped to Austria. There were plenty of every kind of rif raf along the trail just waiting to waylay any and all travelers. Along the way this treasure train, being guided by good friends of "Maximillon",hired some ex-southern "rebel solders" as extra guards, and that was there undoing. The last point on there trip they reached was "Castlegap", and then they vanished into the fog of history.
I would search between Castlegap/Horsehead crossing/Pecos river.
:read2: :coffee2: :tongue3:

I recently had a conversation with an oilfield worker who told me a story about something that happened while he was working between Crane and Iraan Texas, about 20 years ago. A hand had wandered down an arroyo to relieve himself and found a gold coin dated 1865. I'm wondering if anyone can point me to any good sources of information on the Maximilian treasure legend?
