For those of you who have used both machines do you find the extra 800 dollars for the Manticore to be justified? I am in the market and intend to order very, very soon. Unfortunately, I have to purchase from Cabela's (I've saved 1,000 bucks in gift cards) so looks like 1,000 for the Nox and 1800 for the Manticore. Something I think would justify the price is digging less trash, that's really the goal, right? I detect mainly old homes looking for old silver coins and also the beach but I'm in Mn so no salt water, although you may be surprised the amount of interference we get in freshwater from the highly mineralized black sands (AT Pro was horrible at the beach, CTX was OK). One other thing I find the most valuable in a detector is the ability to find treasure next to garbage (silver rosie with a couple nails). I have binge watched every YouTube video; read every thread I could find and most of them are pretty old which kills me because I heard the Manticore had a rocky start but after recent updates it's an absolute BEAST. Any truth to that? Let me know your thoughts, I'm dying to get back out there!!

A small piece of advise, no matter what guys here will tell you, there is really no way to know if one machine would get a signal over the other unless you are comparing signals side by side, it's like picking two stars in the sky and trying to determine which is bigger from here..
If money is the issue, go with the cheaper one, I have not owned either one, but both are modern high tech machines, either will probably get 99% of what the other will get..
I personally use the DEUS II, and wondered why you didn't consider that.... maybe Cabela's doesn't carry it ?
My friend uses the Nox 800 and I consistently walk circles around him for old coins.. not that he doesn't get them, but a LOT of what I get he has a hard time picking up and tells me he wouldn't dig a lot of what I dig.. ha ha ha.. I will tell you that on several occasions I have picked silver, including a recent Walking Half from a place I thought had been hunted to death by a club local to me, only to discover that there was so much trash that my friends Nox couldn't separate the signals like mine did...
Many people here will attest to the DEUS II ability to pick silver and copper coins out of IRON patches...
Good Luck..

You hit the nail on the head, cabelas doesn't carry the Deus and i DID consider that for sure, i know it's a great machine.

Nox for experts, ‘Core for begginers 🤪🤪

Just got home with the Nox 900. Can't wait to get out tomorrow!!
Dig all your targets dude. You have no idea how many times ive dug high iron signals and found copper coins underneath. Ive been using a whites MXT with a detech ultimate 13 coil since 2016 and i get better depth and separation than my friends running minelab 800s. Havent compared with the manticore but i had a V3i a few years back and upright sold it because it was sooooo annoying. Every place you go and every time you turn it on you have to mess with the settings for about 10 minutes before youre good to go. After 300+ years theres a lot of layers of trash in the ground. If you hear signals, whether it be iron, mid or high tones, dig it all. You never know when it’ll be an iron can full of coins. If you leave targets in the ground you also left good stuff. Just my 2 cents.

It's not possible to dig every signal as there's literally 1000s if not 10,000s of targets in an iron patch.
One would be better off in just screening the whole 18" of dirt.
I have been digging at one site now for over a decade. Probably 10 hunts a year, short fillers of a couple of hours at most now.
Less than an acre, just about filled the well up now, as it was around 3-4ft deep with iron.

Still I can't go 1 ft without hearing multiple iron signals.
Yes if I get to the stage of getting a powered screener, I will lease this site for a season of screening.
Just to see if there's one more of these.

If I'm hunting for coins in heavy iron I use this preset coin program. I rarely hunt for coins but when I do..this has worked well for me. It's radical but works! ( Link removed for rule violation)

Thousands? My typical cellar hole area may have a few hundred nails, but definitely not thousands. Where the heck are you hunting, an old factory?

Blacksmithing, any Victorian site.
Lots of the structures were burnt then the rest was buried.
Log/sod structures the iron is really minimal compared to other iron sites.

I don't bother with old factories as the finds are low, big iron is high.

That's the question right?? Interesting your go to is the Nokta, I don't know anyone he uses one but I've heard they're very good machines!
I have the Manticore and Legend, the Legend just collects dust.

Absolutely. I hunt the same kind of areas that date back to the early 1600s. I have a video on youtube about digging “high iron signals”. For the MXT the VDI goes from -95 to +95. I dont dig the iron signals -75 to -95 but if i get a slight chirp in the iron or the iron is -50 to -1 ill dig the iron because more often then not there has been a non ferrous target in with the iron nails or even under it. Yes, lots of plow blades, axe heads, horse shoes, iron washers also. I have another video on youtube where i dug over 20 nails and found a buffalo. My friends and i used to hunt that property almost every weekend in 2018 and we would always find stuff if we went after the high iron signals.

The idea is that theres big stuff above the good stuff that the detector will never pickup. Only way to get it is to dig the stuff on top. Was doing this at a 1830s farm house this weekend and was pulling indians, v nickles and buttons left and right.

Sifting would have been much easier but the home owners wouldnt have gone for that in most cases.

Lots of times I'll go fishing just out of curiosity. Taking out a lot of big iron the detectors can then have a chance between the nails an fencing wire.
Had one hole the other day, 2 bigger pieces of fencing wire, some short pieces. Finally got a slick copper out of the hole.
It was one of those sounded to good not to be hidden in there signals.
To sift I would need to compensate the farmer for the loss of crop, and going around the site.
Could be a bit of a $ tab if it was a slow sift.

I know i dont have the time, money or energy to sift properties. Especially since the really old ones are full of roots. Can slaw is pretty bad on farm home sites that are still occupied. Seems like when the last generation of owners got old they stopped picking up the drift cans before they mowed. They do have those super cool sifting machines for the nice beaches. The stuff im looking for is 8”+ so ill keep digging it all. Theres gotta be a gold coin in the iron somewhere!!

I see videos of the Manticore being extremely sensitive on 1-3 grain gold slivers (nuggets to the folks videoing) . However all the finds seems shallow. 1”-2” at most. How is the manticore on depth when it comes to the larger shotgun shot or say a .22 bullet? I’ve watched them using the 8” coil?
