Mandan 'Rainbow flint' Corn these are not artifacts but maybe still of interest

today i took these images of some Mandan Hidatsa corn that e and johnand the late great Kelly Twitko has grown this year at the garden site of the village site

on the two left pieces are some lavender parching corn "Mandan Red Clay"

on the 4 right are the traditional "Rainbow Flint" Mandan Indian "Bride Corn"

funny i grew these this year;......the red clay corn is only 3 feet tall when mature an has only 1 or 2 small 6 inch cobs per stalk

now OTOH is the 'rainbow flint' which is 7 or 8 feet tall and has 2 or 3 cobs or 4 and is grown prolific in a few small areas for flour or cattle feed

Larson, I got the packages. I LOVE YOU MAN!!!! My wife is walking on cloud nine. She has taken most of the corn to her school and the kids are really excited about getting to plant some of the "pretty corn" next year. I can't thank you enough!

glad to here that hopefully down the road we can get to see it after you grow it

remember to plant the two varieties in separate gardens or far apart as you can get them so they don't cross pollinate

rather than a single 50 foot row do approx five rows each 10 foot long for way better pollination resulting in nice full ears
well gotta go mail some to another tnet member now

Looking forward to my package, Larson1951. Native seed search has some postcards of that glass gem corn for sale. I have another flint corn I was supposed to plant last year but was unable to get my garden going for different reasons. Cascade Ruby-Gold Flint from Carol Deppe in Corvallis, Oregon sent it to me. When I plant it, I intend to send her some back as seed in return for her gift. I will do the same with this corn if you want. It started raining and didn't let up 3 days after I had a man disc up my garden. I'm not complaining about the rain, tho because we had been in droughts in Southeast Ga for many years. This year, Lord willing, I will be blessed to have a nice garden. I want to get me a small grain mill and have some cornmeal that isn't from GMO corn.

I got my package today and thanks very much, larson1951. Love those artifacts. I've been finding lots of pieces of flint in the river and they were so small I didn't think they were good for anything, but after seeing the scrapers, I will look at them differently from now on. God bless.
