Making a Living

Ahh yes utopia ! The idea of days spent detecting beaches and eyeing the eye candy all day while enjoying margaritas as the sun sets under the swaying palm trees of Florida. The dream will never equal the reality. The sand fleas, the humidity, red ants, crime, police hassles, trash, illnesses. It all comes into play when your there faced with reality. I once took a summer off from College and spent the summer on Malibu beach. All of the above is just a small sampling of what I learned from my adventure. Bohemia is filled with bad dreams that can even turn into night mares. What I learned ultimately is that the real trick to living the dream and making it a reality is to only do what you want to do not what you have to do. If you turn Metal Detecting into a job you'll come to hate it just like any other job. But if you come to a place in your life that allows you to metal detect the beaches all day while checking out the eye candy and sipping margaritas under the swaying palms as the sun sets, but not having to worry about the money then it will be paradise.

Are there any beaches in FL where I could make a meager living living out of my van and swinging a BH id? Maybe enough for batteries food and gas?
How is miami beach for hunting? 8)
OK thanks all for the input but 43 replies and not one answer to my miami beach question...how is MB for MDing...in general that is, not to make a living but being so crowded and all just curious if there's much booty to be had?
Thanks J :tongue3:

You might be able to make it if you have an underwater metal detector.
It would be a meager living though.

I've yet to find such a beach. I hunt MB alot, andcould I buy batteries food & gas with my finds? Somedays yes, most days no. And if that's what you'll be doing you need to have yes days every day. And you'll be Very sore. I'm hurting hunting 3-4 or 5 days a week. And don't forget the parking meter, $1.25/hour, that cuts into your grocery money.

Miami is a good area. Learn where you can park for free and be very observant if you are hunting at night. Those beaches can be very dangerous and have been for many years. The most important thing is that you are going to have to put in your time.

Here's a little encouragement that I had forgotten when I made my last post on this thread. In Hawaii, on Oahu, there is a old guy that lives on SS and what he makes TH'ing the Beaches. He's like 80 now and has been doing it for years. He's pretty sharp. He avoids parking fees by parking in the hotel lots. He gets away with this because he handed out cards to them and is called when a guest looses something around the volley ball nets, beach chairs and cabanas. They know him all over the Island. He's at the beach most everyday and works the water mostly unless it's to rough and then he's up on the sand.

Th'ing and his SS check is his only source of income and he does well. There are many reasons that he does well but I don't think I should put them out as they are his secrets. The one above is just an example and and I refer you back to my other post when I said ....think out of the box....

Hey man consider it a dream...dont quit your day job. There will never be a person on this planet who can make their living off treasurehunting alone unless they have at leased a couple hundred thousand to get loans or invest for equipment.

just bein real man.

One expense I have not noticed was parking. It starts at a buck an hour. It may not seem like much but it sure adds up quick.

And I have yet to find a "FREE" parking lot on Miami Beach.
