Went to a field that was known to have a colonial era iron furnace , an campsites for workers...After 2 hours of digging nails and chunks of junk ,there she was, draped bust ,flowing hair LC. Wow 1799 ! Looked around same area ,another 12" deep halfpenny ,1773 Virginia ..now I really feel lucky ,this is to good to be happening..slowed down, overlapped sweeps another deep sound ,more copper ...1805 beauty!! A hammered copper ring ,a? loop ,more nails ,1803 half cent ,2 more buttons ,heading back down the trail ,another deep hit ..what the heck ,an anchor medal with gold guild still on it ..best day out in the field for a long time . Thanks for taking a look .Story is... get out there and find it ..heading out tomorrow .rain or shine . Total after 5 hour search :25 nails , 4 buttons , a Navy anchor medal, copper ring, loop for a sling or whatever it is, 1799 Draped bust cent , 1805 cent , 1773 Virginia halfpenny, 1803 half cent

Re: Makes cents

Now that's a great day! The 1797 is sweeeeeeet!
I'd like to see some close ups of the half penny.

Re: Makes cents

Very impressive finds! Your group of old United States coppers looks like about the nicest bunch of old coppers to come out of the ground so far this year. The acidic soils just eat the poor old things up. I get really disappointed to pull an obvious large cent out of a dirt clod only to have to imagine the date and legends when it's free. Your finds are superior to anything I've seen found around here, and of course, the older the better. I don't have to tell you you have to get back there. If you find a 1799 it would be nice as a rare date, but your 1797 isn't too shaggy either. The others are in quite collectible condition, which as I indicated is unusual. Premium stuff, Thanks for sharing!
Phil

If I recall properly, TreasureNet members have found a couple of 1793's, a 1799, and a least one 1804 Large cent within the last year, plus all the nice half cents. You guys make me proud. Those coins are a real part of America's history.

Now thats a nice day of swingin, get back out there.
