Start with a purchased hand scoop. Find a piece of 3/4" EMT(metal electrical conduit) about 50" long. Bend it at about a 30-40 degree angle approx 14" from one end. Drill two holes through it and the handle of the hand scoop and attach with bolts and wingnuts so you can still take it apart and use as a hand scoop. I found a handle for an old metal file and used it for the 90 degree offset handle for leverage. I found this was not enough leverage when you have a full load so I attached an adjustable strap off of a carrying bag for a nail gun case. You can grab the strap and easily pull up a full scoop. I then used foam pipe insulation on the upper part and wrapped it with electrical tape. The strap is great to fling over your shoulder on your trek to the beach. It's a bit hefty as it is galvenized but I got used to it.
