Last Saturday I took the Deus out for a spin. I ran basic 1 with full tones and normalized vdi. I tried to keep the control in my pocket once I had an idea what I was listening for. I decided to play in the wood chips to learn the tones a little bit prior to moving into some of my sites. I have a tendency to get frustrated and the ground is very hard here now. I wanted max targets in the time I had to learn from. I found $14 in clad a 925 silver Tiffany and company monogrammed pendant. From a finds perspective, not a bad first trip. It did raise some questions for me though. I saw where the normalized tones compresses the vdi on certain frequencies. Does it also compress the tones? I was finding quarters with a vdi of 95 and a quarter sized silver pendant was a 96. I am used to more separation than that on my at pro. It isn't a problem, just different. Any other tips or tricks are greatly appreciated.

I'm guessing you were running 17.whatever frequency? Quarters depending on soil conditions, depth, and orientation will ring up 93 to 95 without bleed through of other nearby targets.

sounds about right to me I know when I hit clad in 12 kh its a 93 so im guessing you were in 17 kh.Normalized vdi does not mess with the tones to my knowledge.

I don't know if this is the answer to your question but it should be easy to test out on your machine.

Normalize affects the frequencies <18khz to respond like 18khz does. It seems to me that the full tones are tied to VDI on a sliding scale. If each VDI had its own tone it would follow the compression of each frequency until normalized is selected. At that point normalized 4, 8, or 12khz will respond as if you were in 18khz. This should be less important to a full tones operator than it would be to a 2, 3, 4, or 5 tone operator.

I like having the coins from copper and up compressed into <15 VDI...makes it easy to find them or avoid them. IMO the 18khz full tones makes US coins as easy to find as nails.

In parks I rarely come out of 18khz for very long any more. In farm fields I've ventured out some and in those places it really changes nothing for me. I dig primarily based on tone characteristics and keep the controller in my bag.

Thanks all for the responses. It was in 12k frequency but normalized. I turned normalize off today and got more vdi separation. At 12k the quarters dropped to 92-93. I am not hung up on this long term. It just helps me to listen to the tone and look at the vdi. I found over $20 in clad. I can't wait until we get some rain and I can try in the grass around here. It has been so dry the ground is like a rock and I don't want to leave dead patches of grass behind. Again thanks for all of the help. I am really liking this machine.
