Greetings. I just bought a pick up magnet designed to collect tools and iron bits from the ground. I bought it to help clear out iron in trashy areas. Now I am wondering--could the magnet interfere with the performance of the Deus if it is in close proximity? Even worse, could the magnet damage the Deus? Any thoughts?
Magnets and Deus...OK if they get close?

Being and assuming that your magnet is large, made of steel and powerful I would say yes to interfering with the detector - as far as damaging you may want to contact XP themselves, there's a lot of small processors in that control box, (and probably the coil as well) I would personally avoid magnets.

No it will not damage the machine, but it can affect its performance if its close..
You can even ground balance the deus to the magnet..
Its called a ferrite balance. .
