Here are some pictures from our vacation. In case you didn't know, Mackinac Island in Michigan doesn't allow any vehicles. The only means of transportation around the island is by horse-drawn taxi, bicycle...or to walk. We rented bikes for a day and a half....and rode the 7 miles around the island several times...plus almost every trail we could find.

Needless to say, it was a healthy vacation pedaling those heavy heavy rental bikes, but it was fun.

Looks like a great place. I would gladly give up my car to live in a place like that. Thanks for sharing.

Haven't been there in 30+ years - looks exactly the same - thanks for waking the memories :)

What an incredible place! I would love to live there! Hook Shilo up to the buggy and no cars! Wow! Thanks so much for taking us with you! I had never even heard of it!

hey, if you happen to have your md, there is fantastic detecting on the shores of St. Ignace

last time i was there, i found an 1857 large cent, 1888 seated dime, plenty of musketballs, shipwreck artifacts, and a whole bunch of neat stuff

Even if you don't have you MD, i suggest taking a walk on the beach, i eyeballed a spoon, old shipwreck spikes, and china while MD'ing (plus a chunk of shipwreck the archies would have a fit over)

I did have my detector, GC....but I left it on the mainland. :-\

I guess I remember you talking about your finds....that's fantastic. I wish I would have tried detecting there. :-\

Lisa, what a great place, this Jersey/Pa Dutch Boy never heard of the area, but now I have. :)
Lovely photos, all of them, even the illegal parked bike one. ::)

Great place, thanks for sharing.
I just saw a piece on 'Discovery channel', (dirty jobs), about
the island, Mike, was picking up 'horse poo'.

Fossis.............

Lots of horse poo-picker uppers on the island. Believe me that's a full-time never-ending job. ::)

Downtown is quite smelly....and we weren't even there on a super hot day. :-X

And another thing...it's best to rent a bike with big fenders....or on a rainy day, you'll have a streak running up your back...and it won't be mud. ;)

I wish I would have seen Mike. He's awesome! Did you know he used to sing for the Baltimore Opera? 8)

Thanks Lisa for taking me on another trip to MacKinac Island. The place is beautiful...I rode a horse around the island. Yep, that's a big time job, one I wouldn't want to have...super dooper pooper scooper. ;D

;) RR

Great pictures Mona. My first vacation when I was 10 years old was to Mackinac Island. I can remember circling the island on a bike four times that day with my cousin! Much later in life, I took my wife there with our one year old son. He probably doesn't remember much about the place. ;D

Just Mona...those are great pics and it looks like it'd be a fantastic place to visit. Thanks so much for sharing these with us :-*
