Lovin' This Spring Weather! Scovill token?

Sunny and in the 70's here! What a difference a week makes. Got out a couple of times last week with Lisa and Terri. Not a lot of keepers, but enough to keep my interest. :)

Yesterday Charlie and I went to visit some old friends in Talladega. A couple of weeks ago, they (Mike and Sonya) had mentioned an old place where his Grandmom's house once stood, and invited me up to hunt.

Brought along the extra detector, gave a quick lesson in hunting and got busy digging. Didn't have but a couple of hours to hunt, but it was a lot of fun. While hunting, I'd look over to make sure Sonya didn't need any help....she didn't. :D She was pulling those relics out like nobodies business. :icon_pirat:
Ended up with a '25 wheat, a cuff button, an old watch and what I thought at the time was a coin. Sat here half the night last night trying to figure out what I had found. It's about the size of a dime and has writing on one side but blank on the other. :icon_scratch: Almost worn smooth on the writing side as well. :-X Put it in the ultra sonic cleaner and could make out a few letters, then did the peroxide cleaning and could see a few more. After searching and pondering over what it may be, I think I've convinced myself that it's some kind of token from Scovill? I think I can read 'Best Double'? around the bottom and then 'Sco' around the top..so I thought maybe it says 'Scovill'? I didn't know they made tokens, but after a bit of research, seems they did. It has a circle with something inside the circle and looks like I can see just a tiny bit of gilt. Anyone know what it is? How old is it? What is it suppose to look like? :P

This is the best I could do with the pictures...sorry...

Good weather for hunting. That flat button really dates that site back there. Most were made between 1790-1830's so I would keep hitting that site now that you've got the newer layer dug, go for those deep real oldies ;D

Mighty nice buch of finds ... the toy soldier would have been enough to make my day ... Congratz!

Re: Lovin' This Spring Weather! Scovill token?

Nice going Nana. Those are some terrific finds! You can barely see where the shank once was on the button. The Scoville /Best Double Gilt back mark was used on civilian buttons between 1827 -1840. The picture below illustrates whet the anchor would have looked like on the button.

Congratulations and Happy Hunting!

Amazing that the WW1 soldier has that much paint still retained. Good stuff there.
