Hello. I found this button over the weekend at an old church site from the 1920's. The back was a big gob of rust that disintegrated on cleaning.

I could read "Scovill" and "Water" before it fell apart. So I know it was a Scovill button from Waterbury, CT.

I have another button with a pelican on it that says "Louisiana" and I see similar ones on the internet so I am thinking the pelican indicates Louisiana? The anchor indicates Navy or Marines? Any ideas on what I have here and its age are appreciated.

Tice`s Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776-1865
Tice`s # MC215 Albert`s # MC9
Marines; convex, two piece with plain border.
Scovill made these buttons from 1840s through early 1850s...includes several device variants.
Not specific to Louisiana (yet) as of time period.

I think, from looking at the position of the top of the wings and the back of the neck, that his button would fit MC14 in Albert's book. And that would make it more modern.
