Now THAT'S an Oak with a lot of history!!

Very nice old park! I would hunt that place death, bet over the years many people sat under or around that tree. :icon_thumright:

Yep, spent lots of time around City Park in New Orleans ... mostly riding by it in my grandfather's truck.

Last time I went home (2013 or 2014), I made it a point to ride through.

Here's a nearby tree in Metairie.

Yep, you guys have some beautiful oaks over there...but I'm still partial to the towering pines in SE Texas. :hello2:

Very nice BIG trees! I would also hunt that place to death.

Best of luck to you sir!

Yep, but you guys don't have gator heads sticking out of yours. Look at the guy's hand on his snout.

Nope, not in my neck of the woods. Had family that lived in the swampy areas - or on the verge, rather. Had some great times - great fishing, but I prefer the towering pines.

I "DID", however, have a pet Caiman once, but he died after our neighbor sprayed a pasture without my knowing. I fed him a bad bug. :crybaby2:

I lived in Metairie. Where is that one located?

Very near the Mississippi River in Jefferson (I've just always thought of that area as Metry - my dad drove for Metry Cab when he met my mom) actually within 600 feet of the water.

Most likely it was a trail marker tree that warned folks of dangers there. Looking at the location in Google Earth, there might have been good reason to mark it with a gator head.

It makes me think of the Keziah Tree in Southport, NC which predates Columbus' arrival in "The New World" ... notice the buffalo with the white horns. Look for other animals too, because they are there.
