Lost a good friend over a recent find. Good riddance.

Seems like perhaps he wasn’t really “almost a brother” to you. After all, family and the closest of friends always should get the benefit of the doubt and a couple free “jacka$$” cards to play. That’s how you can tell they are close friends..you find yourself willing to allow them to play that rare hand, maybe even throw in an apology when you really don’t want to. Those are just my rules, I know most people just pile on another grudge.

Written form is so unforgiving. In the old days of letter writing, the message would usually open with some warm greeting...”hope this letter finds you and your family in good health” or something to that effect...Setting the tone for the rest of the message. I think we have lost something important.

Someone says something offending, the topic can quickly change and corrections can be made. Write something offending and the person gets the ability to read it over and over and stew about it. Maybe wait a day and read it again.
