Looking to buy a White's MXT..... any input appreciated.

I have been thinking hard about buying an MXT. Heard there is a new model..... MXT300 that is supposed to get better depth. What's the difference in the old model and the new 300?
Will be using the machine in stable but sometimes thrashy ground for relics, coins and possibly jewelry. I want good depth with good target seperation. Any input on coils is appreciated.

Only difference is the 300 has a 12" coil. Standard came with the 950.
Bigger coil = more depth. The electronics are the same.

My MXT rocks. Great MD for all types of hunting.
I picked up the 4x6 DD shooter coil when I purchased it, but wish I had gotten the 6x9 instead. The 4x6 is a great little coil but you can cover more ground with the larger one.

Be sure to pick up "The MXT Edge" book when you purchase. Lots of great info on how to use the MXT.

Did you buy the MXT 300? I have an MXT and I really like it. Easy to use and when you find a target it's right under the coil.

If you decide on the MXT300 I'd buy a smaller coil to add to your arsenal. The 6X10DD comes to mind as it's the coil I use the most on my DFX (same coil is used on the MXT). In my opinion the 12" coil is too big for most applications. My stock coil, the 9.5", is sometimes even too large for the areas I detect. That's the same coil that comes stock on the plain MXT.

Ideally a THer should have the large stock coil, a smaller general purpose coil like the 6X10, & a small one like the 4X6DD or 5.3 (about 6" & round).

I've never owned an MXT but from all I hear from guys using it it's a great machine. The 12" coil puts me off a bit, though. It certainly has its uses & goes deep but isn't very good in moderate to heavy trash.

I no longer need input on this machine. I went ahead and got a Minelab Xterra 70 instead of the MXT.

But, but, but, wait! I didn't get to tell you how much I LOVE my MXT! :D :icon_jokercolor:

I'm sure you'll find lots of keepers with that XT70, SwampHunter!

Good luck! Nana
