Looking for places to metal detect. Southern Cali

I'm in the mojave desert area of california, got a Garrett GTI 2500, and i've noticed i live in the wrong part of the country for one of these things . Anyone know of some places in this area that might be some intrest to me other then the local parks and schools(those are givens). Looking for abandoned houses or citys that aren't protected heh.

Was there ever any gold or silver minig done around there?
If so, find a web site that sells reproductions of maps of the 1800's. And get some that cover your area. Often times they'll show boom towns and residences and miners cabins that usually were there only a few years. And 30 years later no trace left. Many boom towns had populations of 2, 3 and 4 thousand or more, and then vanished.
I've made some good finds that way. If tou have a historical society there. You might be able to make copies of there maps. HH
