Looking for Legends and Folklore for McDowell County/Rutherford County...

Relatively new to Western NC (and NC in general). Been seeing a lot of legends either near Cherokee or near the coast. Is anyone aware of local stories, legends, or tales of interesting "treasure" (of all sorts) in the foothills? I live near Old Fort, NC and am still trying to figure out who my local historic resources would be for this area.

You may want to visit the McDowell County library in Marion and go downstairs to the genealogy room. Most of local history is contained in this room. Not sure if anything regarding treasure will be found however. You can pm me with any additional questions. I live in McDowell and a love history.
