My second day of beach hunting and look what I found! Real buried treasure!!!! It was about 9" down. I was about to give up, but the signal was so strong in the quarter range on my Ace 250, I just had to keep digging. and digging... I thought it was just a candy tin at first. But then I realized it was a jewelry box wrapped shut with electrical tape. Woohoo!! What riches may be inside?? I'd love to hear your guesses. Shoot them over and I will unveil the contents in 24 hours. Whoever is closest gets buried treasure bragging rights

For all those who have been anxiously awaiting the unveiling. As promised, here's the rest of the story...
I let my fiance open the jewelry box hoping that my guess of diamond rings and jewelry from an ex-boyfriend or ex-husband was inside. Alas, it was not to be. Twas a note and nothing else ~ wet and impossible to unfold at the time of my original posting. However, my fiance just had to know what it said. So, a trip to Walmart for tweezers and a few hours later - we have a somewhat readable note for everyone. Was it written to a co-worker (police officers put black tape over their badges when one dies) a boyfriend, husband, child or pet? You be the judge. (I'm going with pet myself)

civil war hunter 2! You are the closest and win bragging rights!

Thanks for all the "entries".
It was an exciting find.
Hopefully, there are many more to come.

Oh Oh Oh... the next contest... Who can figure out exactly what it says in it's entirety, and return the note and box to the person who wrote the letter.

yea id deffinatly say thats to a pet, probably a dog because it says play ball forever.

Can you translate that for us?

To my dear freind Ryan A Magoo
you left me at such short notice
I miss "u". I miss the ways "u" wanted
me to play - it was definely unp----?
I told "u" , could take ----? to myrtle + ----?
"u" are, not how I hoped . love "u" forever
meet again (soon ?) -- (--missing?--) play ball forever &---?

;D

Now you can tape it back up and go put it back. I think that was meant to stay where it was found. :)

I'm good, what do i win? I'll take a hug i guess... Well you just have to wonder when, why, and how it got there. I didn't know much about the place on where you found it,what I mean by that is, what the place looked like. If it was in the middle of no where in the wood then it may be worth looking to see. I could be wrong. Treasure could be any where at anytime. Thanks, i enjoy winning for a change, lucky guess. :hello:

A woman, and a young one, I'd guess. What I call 'round writing', a female specialty. Misspelled 'definitly' and used "U".

It is sweet.........

The "treasure" was found right at the entrance to a public beach access location in Myrtle Beach, SC. The only reason I even worked the area was because of a forum tip to check these spots. And for those who asked, no there weren't any traces of ashes. Just a wet note and a small amount of crustacean like things that must have grown in there from the seawater.

Yeah now it would make sense, it has to be a dog, because you play with your dog on a beach. Maybe that was there favorite beach and the owner thought he would like it there.
Hey guys this is weird,I checked my spelling and it said it was complete, then I copied it to my email it also said complete. What's up with that?

I don't really understand why someone would burry something like this. Even if it's from someone like a child...which, I find hard to imagine a child using electrical tape to neatly wrap up that thing.
Interesting though, glad you found it and cool how it's mostly readable.
