Found this at a yard sale yesterday. I always love to dig through boxes and poke into closed things.

pic #1 spotted this box on a table of junk, shook it it was heavy.
pic #2 opened the box and saw lots of paperclips.
pic #3 moved a few around and quickly closed the box. I askd the lady if she would take a quarter and she accepted.
pic #4 when I got home I dug out my prize.
pic #5 It tested way over 18K on my GT3000 and weighed 3.1 gr.

That's the way to do it. Now if the seller is an elderly person and I spotted something like that I may say something, just depends on how big the house, what kind of cars are in the drive way, is thier used stuff better then my new.

This was just your aveage yard sale. tables on the lawn and piles of clothes on the driveway and a 40-50 something couple running the place.

Didn't see any walkers or unopened packages of adult diapers.

Dan, nice score. My Grandfather used to take my sister and I gold panning when we were kids. I have a couple of bottles like that from panning trips to the Swift and Sandy Rivers here in Maine on the top shelf of my desk in my den. For me, the memories are worth more than the gold. But, what I really meant to write was to tell you that my Grandfather always told us that most gold in it's natural nugget form is 22K or a little over 90% and I think I have read that on the web as well. Enjoy ys'ing all winter long for me, I am reduced to craigslist, auctions, estate sales and word of mouth that I am a coin, gold and silver buyer.

P.S. I have noticed in the past that people will pay way over spot for natural gold nuggets if you are thinking about going that route. I think you might make more than from just refining.

I have thought about that, but right now into the safe deposit box for my old age. Oh, forgot, I am old.

Tory, don't hide those vials because they could get sold at a yard sale in 60-70 years by the grandkids.

I am sure these were bought a long time ago, the plastic lid was real hard to unscrew. It was probably the buyers first and only gold purchase for investment. 3.1gr is exactly 1/10th ounce. If he had bought more it would have all been in one spot, not hidden in the office supplies.

Dan,

I forgot Heather graduates soon, so now the precious metals are for retirement. At the time the gold nuggets were bought I believe they were in water, the ones from my childhood and my Grandfather's other specimens were. You can give the bottle a little shake and see the "snow globe" effect as it swirls back down to the bottom. I guess I forgot to mention for anyone elses benefit, it is on Ebay that I have noticed the natural panned or dug gold going for well over spot, but that was probably everyone's first thought anyway, though I forgot to mention it. Again, nice find, Dan.

...and those are some cool paperclips.

I know, I still have them and I don't even like paper clips. Do you want to buy them? ;)

Sure, I'll give you $10.33 if you'll include those little golden color rocks.
