I found this today along a barbed wire fence laying on top of the ground. Not much soil below it but rock.
I don't see any name on it but it looks like a vintage Hubley . Any one know what year it might be and if it is a Hubley.

It's 11 1/2 inches long. cap gun 002.JPGcap gun 003.JPG

I was right that it was made by Kenton, but wrong on the year and model. Sorry about that!

Here is what you have:
Mud Hat I agree that it is a Kenton and I can't find the exact one or one 11 1/2 inches long. The gun you show has an extra large hammer and safety cup for caps to prevent sparks from flying where mine has a different hammer as you can see. No other marks or names that I can see anywhere .trigger 005.JPG

Nice work there with the cleanup !!

Okay so I did a little digging, and the cap gun that was posted earlier is SIMILAR to yours, but not exact. The operating rod under the barrel is too short, and it says WILD WEST on the left side of the gun above the grip, as well as the hammer is different. I believe, after doing a lot of side by side comparisons, that you in fact have an OLDER cap gun than you originally thought. The link I will post is to a Kenton model 1915 S&W long barrel cap gun that is identical to yours in every way.

Thanks Hendo0601 for finding the exact same cap gun as the one I found. I wish I knew how many years it laid out there on the ground. Almost 100 years old.

That's the fun of finding stuff like this...sitting back and wondering how long it's been there, who played with it when it was new, and what were the circumstances behind it ending up in that spot? I think about stuff like that all the time...
