My partner, flynndfx40, and I found this old log cabin sitting by a creek bed deep in the woods today. First thing we thought, detecting heaven and old coins. 2 hrs later still no coins. Found a few bottles, a pocket knife (plastic handles), a crescent wrench, and a brass wedding band. What a disappointment! We think the cabin has been moved in from somewhere else and a room added on. The metal plating over the window is a 4-part hood from an early 1900's car full of bullet holes. Oh well, back to the research.

Very cool find. Was that the Clampet's old place before they moved to Beverly? ;D
Thanks for the pictures.

Definately would get my heart jumping if i found something like that. Just too bad you didnt find much of anything.

that may be on the original site, but it may not be the original house/cabin. Look around for other signs of structures, that could have been a worker house, a smoke house, a shed or barn.

Look for signs of where a larger house may have stood, foundation stones, a pile of rocks (fallen chimney) non native or natural plants/flowers, sunken ground (cellar hole or privey) and definately look for the "road" that led to the location. Deep groves from wagons etc. The original house could have been several hundred feet away in any direction.

Don't give up just yet, there may be something else near by you just overlooked.

Upon second look, there is no chimney on that building, so it is almost for sure not a residence, but a shed or livestock/canning building. KEEP LOOKING!

That's my dream house, I would love to live in a log cabin like that (but in better condition tho)
I would definately keep looking, there's gotta be something there.

Ditto, Joe! I was just thinking the same thing. ;) Gotta be some goodies there somewhere close! Great pictures and a great old structure!!!!

Nana :)

This is my first post - I've been lurking for quite sometime. My father in law has a farm in southern Ohio and he told me of a spot that used to have a cabin that was pretty much gone when he bought the land in the early 1960's. I don't have a metal detector but am looking into it. It will be interesting to see if I find anything. The woods are all grown up now so its appearant that its been a long time since the place existed. He thinks it was built in the 1800's.

While I'm at it - I'm looking at the White's Prism II or III, can anyone please tell me what the difference is between the two models?

Thanks

I'm with Joe and Nana !! I wish I had that cabin !!! Great pics and I love the bottles :) Betcha theres more to find ;)

The people who lived in places like that didn't have two nickels to rub together. They drilled holes in LC's and put them around their necks because they didn't want to lose one red cent.

Not unexpected to find nothing in the coin department. I've done it more than not.

Nice spot, pics, and bottles.

Ken

What a great looking spot! I would be careful though. I think I hear banjos! be careful bending over to dig targets! ;D.

Heck of a find sitting in the middle of the woods! I noticed the nails in the bottle pix look modern.but that cabin is old !
Im thinkin either a Hatfield or Mc Coy site !

I think the guys are right...somewhere near is the main houuse so keep searching...and a good chance there was a still nearby as well!
That hood repair on the cabin is something else !... early 20th century duct tape !!

Good luck & HH !

I would move those floorboards around and check inside.......

I dont think it was for livestock.....because of the type of floor that was in it....looks like the lean to addition was added as well as the new tin roof.....maybe hunting cabin ....could have had a wood stove that didnt have chimney....just hole in wall.....the trees growing to close to building look at least 10-15 years old......

There's more to life than just coins. Keep hitting this place. And don't forget to check along the creek.

BTW, if you need some banjo music for inspiration, let me know.

Maybe someone else found it before you did, or maybe you just didn't hit the right spot, definately worth another look!

That is a cool looking place. The bottles are post 1920's, but still cool. The twist offs became popular after about 1925.
