As a follow up... I have the lockplate and I "think" the stock.. i need to go pick it up and double check.. I have been toying around with the idea of putting reproduction replacement parts together and reassembling the rifle.. marking the replacement pieces as "replacements' as to no cause any confusion years form now..
this would look a lot better over my mantle then the 1861 Springfield..

Does anyone know a good supplier of parts?? I've been searching and have found complete weapons.. which I could disassemble if I had too... but I'd rather get just the parts I need...

Gunparts Corp aka Nurmrich Arms has millions of gun parts, but I don't know if they have any that old. You should note that guns of that era were not mass produced in an assembly line manner like they are today. There could be a slight varience even from gun to gun depending on who or where the various parts were made. Monty

Thanks for the info.. I've read up on the subject quite a bit.. and know most were more custom fit then standardized but that's ok. i'll have to piece it all together anyway.. going to be quite a bit different then the Enfield and Eddystone I restored...I'm looking forward to it... guess I love pain and suffering!!! ;-)

The whole plan fell apart.. the "stock" for this one turned out to be another brown Bess.. of a later period that had been converted to cap!! It is good just the way it is!! Sooo.. at this point.. i am not about to go destroying something like that... I guess I "just" have the pieces!! ;-) The other one is missing the barrel.. so I will keep looking for one..
