I have a First Class, Silver medallion issued by the Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society dated 1839 on the Medallion. The outside band holding the glass pieces on is engraved as follows:

To Mr. Wm Hughes, Master Pilot, for rescuing Crew of Sloop Elizabeth, in a heavy gale, off Ormshead 13th Oct 1849. Its in the original case and appears to have had the glass replaced on the dated side.

I have a letter from the Secretary of the Society, a Mrs. Christine Collins, along with a photocopy of the minutes where the award was noted.

Anyone know what its worth?

I'm not sure on this one, but I did find a little info on it at Old Awards -It seems that the silver medal was the second highest of the four honors, and was only awarded 22 times. Nice!
