Yesterday's hunt was all about digging out Wheat Pennies, I thought I was going to break my single hunt record of 31. I ended up with 28 Wheat Pennies. For the most part,, these were 7 to 8 inches deep. I did manage to recover 2 silver dimes, (36 Mercury & 61d Roosevelt), but with that amount of wheat pennies, I know this hill had to have been carpeted with silver at one time. This 8 hour hunt produced 89 coins, (mostly memorial pennies), but there were a few finds I thought to be pretty interesting.
There are 2 Gun Hammers, and I was wondering if you gunsmiths think thy are real. I doubt it because they appear to be made of some crappy white metal. That kind of metal probably wouldn't hold up under the shock a gun produces when fired.
The most interesting find is a Little Orphan Annie Good Luck Coin.

Nice hunt. The good luck token is cool and you got some silver to go with all those wheats and the buffalo. I'm pretty sure those are parts off a toy gun.

You pulled some serious coin ATW! Congrats on a fine, fine day...may you fill your pouch with silver once you happen upon that hidden pocket...Ddf

I like the Little Orphan Annie token. Nice find! The piece third from the left on the bottom of the upper left hand pic is part of a whale oil lamp.

orpan annie coin very collectible :icon_thumright:

Awesome token, congrats on all your finds

Lovin' that cool LOA token coin. 28 wheats is crazy and that's not even your best day. Wow. Good job with the silver dimes and all that other cool stuff. Great hunt.:headbang:

Love that token!

Great finds, ATW. I think I recognize those hammers a part of 1950s cap guns. The perforated roll of red paper caps fed under the curved plate. How many of you out there remember playing with "Fanner fifties"? There were also toy six shooters that actually fired re-usable gray spring-powered plastic "bullets" that (assuming they were found) would be reloaded into the shell casing. Cool stuff!

Nice finds ATW. I like that Orphan Annie Token, and as always the Merc. Looks like you were a little anxious to check the dates on that pyramid of Wheat Pennies !

Well done ATW.

I liking that Orphan Annie token.

Orphans and Ovaltine, what's not to like, huh?

Cap gun hammers...

Good luck brother!

Nice finds ATW. I like that Orphan Annie Token, and as always the Merc. Looks like you were a little anxious to check the dates on that pyramid of Wheat Pennies !

I always expose the dates on wheat pennies with a wooden toothpick. Then I hit it with a little olive oil and wipe it to bring out the date.
One of the pennies is a plain 1909. (Top of pyramid )

Nice finds, congrats! I like the Little Orphan Annie Token and the silver.:icon_thumright: I agree with dts52 that those are hammers from old cap guns and remember the ones I had that were silver with white plastic handles and the holster and shot the red, roll caps and would annoy mom as I shot them off until the roll was gone, Fun!

Nice digs!! Congrats and HH

Hello AtW. You were outstanding in the field with that hunt. The OA token is a real nice keeper and 20+ old coins with silver had to be great.

Thanks for the post and Good Luck. C9
