🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Little lead tags with writing on them

Found these 4 tags together. Have found several bag seals and lead slag in the same area. Farmed from the mid-1700s- late 1800s. Now urban NJ. They all have writing on them but the one I can best make out is stamped “pat. no, pending.” On the backs are lines/stripes.

They look burnt all over? But also like leather? How did you prove they were lead? I don't think lead is known for being flexible and able to have numbers embossed on it. I am wondering if they are very very old, say 1930's, furniture tags?

I’ve found lots of lead bag seals with writing on them in the same area. Pretty sure they‘re lead.

Actually lead is very flexible and people have been using lead to stamp for hundreds of years
