The first two photos are an old padlock. The tag looks like a check tag for a miner going in or out of an underground mine.

Possible a hotel key tag. If you give us some additional info - like where you are located - we can do some additional research.

More info = better results.

I was hunting in Monroton PA. I got permission to hunt behind an old house that's 100+ years. It is close to rail road as well as coal mines. I'm wondering about the lock. I can't find any marks or a name on it. As Farr as the tag goes I believe EB bitt is a name.

Most likely is a name. Some mines used a name with along with an identification number. Any old coal mines near where you found it?

That's most likely what it is. Your local library could tell you for sure if you have a county history area of the county historical society.

The padlock was probably an Express or Railroad lock. Many of these would have the railroad or company that owned it embossed on the cover for the keyhole, which is missing. The point on the bottom would have had a chain attached to prevent loss when it was unlocked. Used on rail cars and such.

Im thinking an old pad lock, can't see any name on it, And A miners chit, To let them know if he's down under or up above ...HH
