I agree with Crusader .. a match safe. The copper, with all the holes, reminds me of the pieces I found at an old home site where they had replaced a slate roof... flashing I would guess. What does it say on the two tags (upper right and lower left corners of your top photo)?

I agree match safe and copper flashing.

Can you post a close up pic of the item bottom left that appears to say "...GATES RIBBON...?"

Great job guys,I dug a match box almost identical to that that had a design on it.I gave it to the landowner in a display I made for him, great find!!
Also we find a lot of tin cans and copper sheets that have various square nail holes in them, like that, you gotta figure they had to improvise with what little they had out in the bush, especially the Confederates! If you look at period photos of huts and such you can pick out some great examples of this!

Yes In early 70s used to visit My relatives on sac and fox reservation, they used tin kerosine cans for roof patches.
I remember seeing a door pull made from the can top with the rolled handle.Kerosine or white gas
I wonder if Conditions have Improved for Our first Americans.

Thanks guys. Match safe seems right and the copper really could have been anything. it's doubled and folded flat with a curled edge and then smashed to oblivion. This site had much in it but it's all been pushed into a creek. Crazy. I am cleaning the token it is kinda rough.I shall give this the green check. Thanks for your time.

At least they are never homeless because they will always have the land. At least that is the way I look at it. Correct me if Im wrong but there are some Americans that will never have a piece of land and are left to look for the nearest underpass for shelter or sleep in their vehicle always at risk of arrest...
Im not sure how anyone could complain that has their own tax free piece of land.

Who brought the tax's and how much land DID they have??

I dont want to debate what their ancestors had and its nothing against you personally. I think you are a great guy, interesting and knowlegable. I guess I just get tired of hearing about the "poor Indians." I work on an Indian Reservation every winter and maybe I feel this way because we dont have any poor Native Americans in South Florida. They are certainly getting their revenge lol. I dislike excessive taxation but we all should have to pay our share.

As you know, they are not forced to live on the reservations and I think they have just as fair a shot at life as anyone else. Actually better, with all the government assistance. Correct me if Im wrong. Why is it when the government gives a person everything for free it usually doesnt help?

Sorry to hijack and I think I should remove my post bcause if off topic.

Pm sent

LOL The rich Native Americans should start helping those tribes that are struggling.

Its true they dont really want anything from the government. They just want to live in their traditional ways and be left alone but its not possible in this modern world.

I can do that. Im in the middle of nowhere near a place called Devil's Gardens, Florida. ...I have enough wild hogs on my property... I pay taxes but I cannot live on my own little piece of land... I cannot get mail or electric without a ton proper permits, drainage and building restrictions which drives me crazy... I cant put up a fence without a permit... Sometimes I wish I was on a poor Indian reservation lol.
