Looks like a little Dalton.......nice finds!! To bad about that Turkey tail second row from bottom 3rd in. That would have been a nice example if not reduced due to sharpening..............GTP

hi gtp.
thanks for the info.that turkeytail is the only one ive seen at this site.if you would could you tell me what you think this is,i have read alot of your posts in the past and really would like to hear what you think about this one.Picture 043.jpg

Jamey!!!!!

It looks kinda paleo to me? Like very paleo ? You hunt in one of the coolest old areas. I have it framed in my living room. I wonder if you would recognize the picture 20 years later. Wish you would start sharing your hunts again :hello: Glad you got my message neighbor.

Thank you Jamey, if you can give me some front shots of that piece. Right now on its side it looks like a couple of point types I am leaning towards a Beavertail. Nice finds........that last point you showed me is a beauty regardless if it is a beavertail........................GTP

Nice one there. I havent been spoiled like that in a yr now if ever. I am still looking for a good one like that.

Wow!!!.............That is a beauty Jamey!!! I want to say that is a Beavertail but it is strange with the elongated base. If the base is not ground I am going to say that this is a Copena with a resharpened base to me this is odd. If the base is ground it would be a Beavertail with a resharpened base. I am thinking this base was resharpened..................Hope this helps somewhat.......either way it is still a beauty......TnMountains might be able to give a exact................Chris(GTP)

If that point is fluted on the other side, I would have to say Cumberland. It doesn't quite have Cumberland "ears" at the base, but it is really close. If it is fluted. Beautiful piece any way.

sorry to open the post then crash on ya,thanks for your thoughts.the base is ground up till it gets wider gtp.nc field hunter deep down im hopeing but no flutes,i see you put your time in also, ive had the bug for five years and not getting any better

hi rock,
there are many out there with your name on it,you just have to go get them, although it would take me awhile to get used to those critters you have round you.

Yeah I am sure there is but just havent hit the rite spot yet. I heard a loud blowing noise the other day and turned around and left. I found out it is a deer blowing air when something is getting close to the others to let them know danger is close. I didnt know what the heck it was cause I couldnt see nothing in the bush. Next time I will know lol.

funny rock,i was thinking more like moutain loins,i saw one here in tennesse.

I called the farmer and he said it was probably a deer. I bet he was laughing when I told him I turned and left. I think it was a deer cause the noise came from up high and not low by the ground. I tried to see it though I couldnt.

Lol! I have heard, and been scared by deer blowing before. In fact, while they are in rut, if one blows at you, you should slowly and quietly move away. Bucks have been known to attack. It's not common, but does happen. I have heard some ungodly sounds while in the woods on my life. Now I'm seeing bear tracks. First time I have ever really feared being caught in the woods after dark, due to an animal. I miss the days of fearing getting lost in the woods. Lol

Jamie I typed out a whole thing for you to consider and lost it. I will try again by showing you some similar items from our area.
Here is a beaver lake. It is not that.

Here are two Tn River knifes and a copena. Notice the single flaking on the knifes to the middle and the second knife had random flaking due to bad material. They were all together with other things that leave me to believe they were prepared quickly hence the random flaking on the second. The copena is the third item. Not the best example but one nonetheless. Notice the size of the fort payne chert in the knifes.

I think yours is a beautiful high grade copena classic with random flaking and some resharpening. It is worth a nice penney and a great find. I will try to get some of my hunting buds to look on here and get their opinions. This is my best guess. I am terrible at typing points. That is why I count on this forum!! haha
Tour base throws me but it was not uncommon to have a auriculate base. This was does not below but the shape is right.
