Found this today near a early 1800’s cellar hole.

Silver plated, but much lighter than an old lipstick tube, so had to wrap in electrical tape and place between boards in a vice. Took a little work, but...

Reminds me of a trench lighter. Maybe some kind of refillable candle?

I think you are correct. There is a cap that I removed on the cover. Looks like it is ventilated and could slide to allow protection to the flame. The spark mechanisms must have attached to the broken bracket piece on the outside. Thx!!!!!
